At least one name on the Senate ballot paper on Saturday may be familiar one to longer-term Tenterfield residents with former local Chris Buckman putting up his hand as the lead NSW Senate candidate for the CountryMinded party.

Mr Buckman grew up in the Shire, attending Jennings Public School and Tenterfield High School. He then completed a traineeship with Roberts and Morrow Accountants before embarking on what’s become a lifetime of work in the community sector, currently as a business development manager for Essential Employment and Training. His parents Ted and Debbie still live in Jennings.
In 2008 Mr Buckman was elected to Narrabri Shire Council and said this experience ignited a passion for politics and the ability to serve his community and make a difference.
“I have a passion for social justice, the community service sector and particularly the disability sector,” Mr Buckman said.
Born with cerebral palsy, he said he has a deep understanding of the challenges of living with a disability.
“As a person who has lived and worked always in rural and regional Australia, I am focused on delivering a better outcome for my family and particularly our children through standing up for fairer political representation and a strong voice across all rural and regional communities.”
Mr Buckman and CountryMinded colleague and New England candidate David Mailler are in town tonight, Wednesday from 6pm holding an informal forum at the Tenterfield Tavern to meet voters and discuss issues, and welcome anyone to come along for a chat.
