Boggabilla farmer,  co-founder of the CountryMinded Party and Senate candidate, Peter Mailer was in Goondiwindi flying the flag for Maranoa candidate, Luke Arbuckle.

"I have no idea how we are going to go but I know that this is the start. We are here for the long haul," he said.

Mr Mailer said pressure had to be put on the Coalition, Labor and the National Parties.

He was hoping for a big enough impact in Maranoa so it's not taken for granted by the Nationals and the Coalition.

He also made, what some may find a surprising admission, he "hates playing" politics.

"But the issues facing rural Australia is too important, and there  are too many forgotten people,  not to stand up and have a go," he said.
