Tenterfield Shire councillors and staff gathered in council chambers yesterday for MP Thomas George to announce that the NSW Government will invest $3.6 million for the Tenterfield Creek Dam Safety Upgrade project.

Mr George said the funding mean council is now able to process with tenders for construction works to upgrade the dam.
“The Tenterfield Creek Dam, which was originally constructed in 1930, requires major strengthening work to meet current safety standards and improve the reliability of the dam.
"The $3.6 million in funding form the NSW Government is a major win for the Tenterfield local community and will support the council to carry out this important project.
The Tenterfield Creek Dam Safety Upgrade project is expected to be completed in mid-2017.
Mr George complimented council staff on their professionalism and work in making the successful application, allowing the project to move forward.
“It reflects the dedication of staff to make this happen,” he said.
Mayor Peter Petty thanked Mr George and Minister for Lands and Water Niall Blair for the funding, and his staff on their dedication and the high standard of the application.
“This council is getting on with the big jobs, and the ‘big picture’ deals,” Cr Petty said.
“This dam project is going to be a huge project, and will impact the future of this town and the whole shire.”
Minister Blair said in a statement that the NSW Government is committed to ensuring that regional community such as Tenterfield continues to have a secure and sage water supply for years to come.
“Since 2011, the government has provided over $148 million for capital works through the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program, and we will continue to do so by funding important infrastructure projects such as this,” he said.
