The dinner was attended by past Rotary district governors David Lee and Ross Smith and their partners as well as representatives of the town’s other service organisations.
Outgoing president Frances Overell bid a fond if somewhat relieved farewell to her role for the past 12 months, noting the club’s sponsorship of the very successful three-day Shark Cage domestic violence awareness program as a highlight of her reign.
In his presentation Mr Bolton indicated he is keen to continue the programs for which Rotary has become known, such as supporting local youth to attend Rotary youth camps, presenting end-of-year achievement awards at all the local schools and sponsoring local year 11 students to attend driver awareness training in Tamworth.
He also passed on district directives encouraging each club to continue their support of organisations such as the Fred Hollows Foundation, and to line up 10 members or friends to sign up for Donate Life organ donation. The charitable Rotary Foundation turns 100 in September, so each member is urged to donation US$26.50 (around A$38) to the foundation to mark the occasion.
Members are also being encouraged to introduce at least one person to Rotary this year, so expect a tap on the shoulder.
As always the meeting was an entertaining affair with a lively round of ‘fines’ accompanied by witty observations from Terry Kneipp, and Rotary Foundation director Noelene Hyde gave an overview of the work undertaken by the foundation, thanks to the support of grassroots club members.
Rotary continues to meet weekly for dinner on Tuesday nights, generally at the Golf Club and usually with an entertaining presenter lined up.
