Both Eric Richards and Peter Thompson had good scoring opportunities in the first half and the defensive line was controlled by Lachlan Farrugia. Carlton had some very good passing passages of play and were directed around the field by Georgia Williams.
After a tight first half Carlton eventually found the net in the second thirty minutes and ran out winners 6-0.
The Tenterfield Ladies team has had its fair share of bad luck this season with injuries to some key players which has left the team searching for subs off the bench. With the start of the third round the team is needing to put some wins on the board to make it to the finals.
Carlton only having 10 players started the first half with plenty of enthusiasm thwarting some early raids into their top third. Carlton’s striker Brit Reyner kept the Thunder’s defense busy with some excellent runs up front. Amy Condrick had an impressive game in the back line breaking down many forward runs. After a scoreless first half the Thunder made a keeper change allowing Amanda Carpenter to press forward.
This change proved crucial as Carpenter crossed an accurate long pass to striker Allana Clancy who had a one vs one and guided the ball past Carlton’s keeper. The final score Tenterfield 1 defeated Carlton 0.
With a return of Cassidy Thrift, Jayson Murphy and Dylan Horn and a restructure of the team’s formation the Tenterfield Men’s team showed plenty of promise early. Thrift had plenty of dangerous runs down the right flank and provided some good opportunities.
Carlton’s Torrisi connection in the middle of the park put plenty of pressure on the Thunder’s defense for most of the game. The visitors led to the break with a two goal lead.
As always the Thunder played the second half believing that their improvement and determination can get them their first win of the season. Brad Gallagher and Josh Gower had strong games in attack and had shots on target.
With an unlucky finish to the second half the 3-0 scoreline did not reflect the effort and closeness of the match.
The Thunder has another home game this Saturday playing against International for the Brendan Sweetman Trophy. Please come support all teams.
