Nathan Landon-Beer and Jake Smith were part of the group that visited council chambers during the recent Local Government Week, and were happy to accept council’s invitation to return to experience a council meeting.
Nathan has just been announced as 2017 school captain, while Jake will be a school leader. On welcoming the boys to the chambers, mayor Peter Petty praised the high school, saying he was always impressed by its school captains and how well they speak.
“It’s been informative, and opened my eyes to what council does and how the meetings are run,” Nathan said.
Jake said he was surprised by how structured and formal the meeting etiquette was.
While both have already embraced a leadership role in their school and therefore the community, they consider this a good start but weren’t committing to progressing their representation to the government level.
