The Tenterfield team of Daphne and Graham Kirkman and Neville Richardson travelled to The Summit to take on Southern Cross (from Warwick) and The Summit clubs, racking up two wins and topping the leader board by a single point.
Neville said the competition is so-named for historic reasons when the winner’s prize was often a turkey. These days, though, due to safety concerns the winners receive the funds to purchase their own turkey (or other treat of their choosing), with a $25 cash prize to each of the team members.
With the men club members recently winning their Division 3 pennant, Penny Stanbridge and Val Butler doing so well at zone level before Penny and her partners went on to win the Tenterfield Spring Bowls Carnival, and then Neville and pairs partner Elana Scott taking out the Glen Innes Major-Minors, the club’s reputation will be preceding it to coming events.
