Local professionals stepped up recently to give Tenterfield High School students an opportunity to explore their career preferences, discussing the realities of their daily work and the steps they took to get there.

Students were able to construct their own program of 30-minute sessions throughout the day, and reported that the exercise had been of benefit.
Professions on offer were as diverse as environmental science (Mandy Craig from Landcare), Preschool and early childhood (Kerryn de Jonge, Tenterfield Preschool), youth and social work (Karen Mooney, Tenterfield Social Development Committee), radiography and digital imaging (Karen Holley), accounting (Lyn Gower, LG Accounting and Jess Silver, KLAS), hairdressing (Ashlee Crotty, Inspire), drafting and engineering (Mal Whitton), National Parks & Wildlife (Michael Leiberman), naturpath and remedial massage (David Reynolds), hotel management and cheffing (Tim Dillon and Florian, respectively, Commerical Boutique Hotel), agricultural science (Steve Parker), electrician (Andrew Petrie), real estate and livestock auctioneering (Ben Johnston, Ray White Rural), pharmacy (Adrian Ebbern, Soul Pattinson), sales manager (Ben Silver, Sexton & Green), lawyer/solicitor (Doug Bassett, Clifton Legal), personal trainer (Simon Lee, BFit), surveyor (Ralph Weatherley) and paramedic (Tracey Koppel). Police, nursing, veterinary and counselling careers were also represented, as were course options from a number of tertiary institutions.
