Who wants to live forever?

According to Cave, we all do.

Cheating death is humanity’s oldest wish.

It is embedded in our nature and is the driving force behind science, agriculture, architecture, the arts, fame and family.

Frozen embryos, freezing the brain, taking potions that promise longevity and seeking different spiritual paths are all attempts to increase life’s satisfaction and live longer.

This is not really surprising as we are all born with a desire to love and be loved.

When those we love the most die, it is heartbreaking to say the least and leaves many feeling lost without hope or without any real purpose in life.

It takes time to refocus, make new friends, find a new purpose and zeal to live out the rest of our days.

The good news is that our mighty and all loving Creator God knew that we would have this desire to live forever.

In fact it is God who gave each one of us this desire.

The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that God has “set eternity in the human heart.”

In every human soul is a God-given awareness that there is “something more” than this transient world.

And with that awareness of eternity comes a hope that we can one day find a fulfillment not afforded by the “vanity” in this world.

The Apostle Paul called this flesh body we live in a tent.

Just as a tent is a temporary dwelling, so our flesh is a temporary dwelling. However, we are more than flesh.

We are created in God’s image and are body (flesh) soul and spirit.

God has not only given us that eternal desire, but he has also provided the way to live forever.

We don’t need any scientific breakthroughs. Christ has already broken through for us.

Through His perfect sinless life, Christ died for you and me, He rose from the dead three days later and in so doing regained the “keys of death and hell” stolen by Satan.

God has given Christ all power and authority over eternity and we only need to open our hearts to Him.
