Captain John Gray said the firefighters receive the occasional animal rescue call, but this was the first time the team had encountered a rescue like this.
After thrashing around attempting to free himself the pup laid motionless and there were fears of a neck injury. Capt Gray said when applications of Vaseline and grease failed to release him, concrete around the PVC pipe was removed and the pipe was cut.
Oxygen was then administered to the pup while the pipe remaining around the pup’s head was removed with tin shears.
After a quick trip to the vet’s for a checkup, Mouse is now back home and doing well, and hopefully wary of pipes that are a little smaller than his head.
