Armidale Horse and Pony Club put together a 22-rider team who spent Saturday and Sunday honing their skills ahead of the three-day competition.
The club’s chief instructor Rebecca Cameron said there is a good mix of skilled equestrians among the group.
"There is a mixed age group going, our oldest is 23 and our youngest is seven,” she said.
"Everyone that goes competes in the hacking and sporting, a select 10 riders will compete in the dressage and the campdraft, those riders that wish to jump are able to jump as well.”
The local club finished the 2016 interclub gymkhana season in second place and hope the riders are able to make the step up to the bigger Jamboree event and bring home the trophy.
"We used to be one of the more competitive clubs [but] these days our numbers aren't as strong as they used to be but we have had a successful year so hopefully we can bring it home and have another successful jamboree,” Cameron said.
"It is the top of the local area pony clubs, from here riders can go to state and national level. Because we are in the southern area of the zone we generally don't get to see the northern riders so it is tougher competition, there are a lot bigger numbers up there.”
Cameron said while it is competitive off the horse, there is plenty of fun outside of the arena.
"We all get together, camp together, mix with the clubs, it is good,” she said.
