In 1885, 1913, 1915, 1918, 1927, 1935, 1940, 1988 and 2013 there were some wet tracks.
There were some parallels to be drawn between the 1918 and the 2013 downpours - when the last race of the day had to be called off due to flooding rain running in deep torrents across the grounds.
Races were abandoned due to flooding 1923, 1951, 1956, 2004, 2006 and 2011.
The races did not run in 1902 or 1929.
And this year the forecast is for a hot day from 29 to 31 degrees Celsius, but with a chance of late showers or thunderstorms.
Depending on the forecaster, the predictions early in the week were showing a 90 per cent chance 5mm to 10mm of rain late in the day on race day.
