All interested players and parents are welcome to attend. The Team Staff will be addressing players from 6pm and a short training session will follow plus a barbecue afterwards.
In another exciting development the Border Bushrangers Under 18s and A Grade Rep teams will also be donning a new playing strip in 2017. This mainly came about due to the conflict of colours with numerous other TRL clubs in 2016 and to provide a fresh new look for the players to enjoy.
The Under 18s season proper commences on Saturday, March 18 when they play their first match against Dalby at Brothers in Toowoomba. A preseason trial match is currently in the pipeline and further details will be to hand in the near future.
“I am really looking forward to meeting all of the Under 18 players from around the region,” Coach Petrie said.
“I am hoping to teach the players a few new training methods and to work on our teamwork and structures for what is sure to be an enjoyable season.
“Due to the logistics of travelling between the townships in the Border Rugby League area, we have decided to conduct only one major 1.5hr training session per week for all the players to attend and then we will be focusing on players completing ‘some extras’ in their own time or maybe training with their local senior clubs.
I am hoping to teach the players a few new training methods and to work on our teamwork and structures for what is sure to be an enjoyable season.
- Damian Petrie
“There is a lot of interest from players from Tenterfield and Stanthorpe especially, but we would welcome any new young players from the other areas of the Border Rugby league area to get involved as well.”
Prospective player numbers are looking very promising with up to 20 players graduating from the Under 16 squads in Stanthorpe and Tenterfield this year alone. Together with players who are still eligible from their first season in 2016, it is hopeful that upwards of 25-30 players will be available for selection. More importantly it will enable these young men to continue to play the game they love in their local communities.
Potential Under 18 players in Tenterfield are encouraged to contact Dave Landers on 0429 848 019 or Mick Jensen on 0439736865 if you require a lift to training in Stanthorpe tonight.
Parents are welcome to attend this first session to listen to the plans and expectations for the 2017 season.
