Wednesday Night the XI Ducks took on the Telegraph Slammers in a match that saw an early end due to weather. After consultation with teams they agreed to use the Duckworth-Lewis calculation to come up with a winner, thus being the XI Ducks by 7 runs.
The Slammers were going to be hard to beat with a score of 135 runs thanks to Dylan Thrift hitting 33 runs and Lachlaun Tweedale scoring 18. Top bowler for the XI Ducks was Tim Kelly bowling 1/1 while Thomas Butler and Mitch Austin both scored a wicket conceding 6 runs apiece.
In the second innings, before rain halted play at the bottom end of the 11th over, the XI Ducks were up to bat. Tom Butler and Tim Kelly both proved their all round skills by scoring the most runs with 21 and 18 respectively. Dylan Thrift, another all-rounder, bowled exceptionally well for the Telegraph Slammers scoring 1/3.
Thursday night the Short Fuses defeated the Royals in a quick match with the Royals all out for 45 and the Short Fuses 6/58.
The Royals won the toss, electing to bat with Peter Holley their top run scorer on 17 and George Little batting 10 runs. Luke Bates, proved his bowling prowess yet again managing 2 wickets with only 7 runs conceded while Scott Bates scored 1/2 and Lindsay Lockwood a maiden over.
In the second innings, Daniel Puglisi batted well for the Short Fuses managing 22 not out while Shaun Merchant hit 16 runs of his own. Dave Fowler had an absolute blinding spell, scoring a huge 3 wickets for 7 runs with a maiden over as well. Will Holley was another good bowler managing to score 1 wicket and conceding only 7 runs.
As it stands the Short Fuses are on top of the ladder with 15 points, the XI Ducks in second place on 14 points, the KLAS Bouncers remain on 13 points after a bye while the Telegraph Slammers and Royals are on 8 points and 4 points respectively.
Next week in the final fixture of the season before the semi-finals the KLAS Bouncers take on the Royals and the Short Fuses are up against the Telegraph Slammers while the XI Ducks have the bye. Who will take out the competition is anyone’s guess.
