Sophie De Git is rallying the troops, and said so far she has about 28 students on the roster. Sophie also volunteered to collect last year, and said the experience had been fun with good feedback from the households she visited.
There are always two members in each team, which is given a designated area to cover. Local Red Cross coordinator Judy Wilshire said other collectors will be out and about earlier in the month, so Tenterfield households should expect a knock on the door anytime between March 1-12. All collectors will wear ID badges.
“Previously we’ve done very well for a little town,” Mrs Wilshire said, “and it’s been gradually increasing.”
Anyone with a few hours to spare in the collection period is encouraged to contact Mrs Wilshire on (02) 6736 3610 or Barbara Brown on (02) 6736 2013.
“We’d appreciate any assistance,” Mrs Wilshire said.
It’s all for a good cause, with donations helping Red Cross to be there for people at home and overseas, whether it’s standing by a community as it recovers from an emergency, supporting a Pacific village to build toilets and tanks for clean water, or lending a hand to someone elderly or alone.
