The collective’s Anni Washington said the exhibition will be the group’s biggest undertaking to date, and the gallery has already received a good level of interest.
The gallery’s near-neighbour, Jennings and Kneipp Lawyers, has come on board with major sponsorship, providing a $1000 acquisition prize for a work that will then adorn the law office’s wall.
There is also $250 each for the open two-dimensional and three-dimensional prize, and another $100 for the artist who produces the viewer’s choice. The theme for the competitive exhibition is Tenterfield Reflections, in line with that of the festival, providing lots of scope to showcase the district’s heritage.
While a variety of media is acceptable, there is a limit of two entries per artist to allow space to accommodate a number of artists. Entries forms must be accompanied by a photo of the entry(ies) from which a pre-selection will be made by members of the Artists’ Collective Gallery.
The organisers would prefer to receive entries online, at artistscollectivestudio@gmail.com. They can also be mailed to PO Box 177 Tenterfield but all entries must be received by Friday, March 3.
Entry forms are available by email request to artistscollectivestudio@gmail.com, by phone to 0410 025 519 or by message via the collective’s Facebook page.
The selected works will be exhibited at the gallery and judged by Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery director Mary Findlay. Jennings and Kneipp Lawyers principal Kerri Swain said she will then be guided by Ms Findlay in the selection of what she hopes will be a significant piece to hang in the waiting room of the practice.
In addition to being their landlord, Ms Swain said she is a great supporter of the artists in the collective, and is a frequent visitor to the gallery.
“I love going in and buying pieces of art,” she said.
“I can’t to see what entries come in for me to choose from.”
For those looking for clues as to what will appeal to the sponsor, Ms Swain said she’s fairly conservative in her art choices and is a fan of the work produced by the members of the collective (although they’re ineligible to enter).
She feels the Tenterfield Reflections theme will suit her purposes well.
“Something that our clients can look upon that strikes a chord and brings back a memory will be ideal,” she said.
