Tigers president Brendan Minns hopes to field a quality side.

Tenterfield Tigers Rugby League Club president Brendan Minns said rumours of the club not fielding a team in this year’s Border Rugby League competition are unfounded.

He said while numbers could be better, the outlook remains positive.

“We’re hoping to have a quality side. Numbers have been a little low at training.

“With the round robin in two weeks, it’s time to kick things up a gear.”

Minns said there a several new players in the team who are returning after a couple of years, and interest from a number of younger players. He would like to have a squad of 20-25, to allow for work commitments and injuries and to see out the season. He currently has 15 players on the books.

Training is on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Rugby League Park from 6.30pm, so anyone interested is urged to commit now.

The ladies leaguetag team trains on Wednesdays, also from 6.30pm, and prospective players are invited to come along.
