NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall made a welcome return to Tenterfield – with grant money in hand – as he met up with local Member of Parliament Thomas George to announce that Oracles of the Bush will receive $20,000 through the NSW Government’s 2017 Flagship Event Fund.

Mr Marshall was the Tenterfield district’s state MP before the redrawing of electorate boundaries, which put the district into Mr George’s Lismore electorate. Mr Marshall has since been named state tourism minister, giving him opportunity to revisit his old stomping ground.
The Flagship Event Fund provides grants to support marketing activities that drive overnight visitation to Regional NSW.
“The fund is a terrific NSW Government initiative and part of our renewed commitment to boost rural and regional economies through tourism and major events,” Mr Marshall said.
“Events play a fundamental role in attracting new and returning visitors to our regional towns, bringing with them additional business to restaurants and cafes, local tourism operators, attractions and accommodation providers.
“The Flagship Event Fund represents Regional NSW at its best, with local communities coming together to stage events that showcase the unique character, culture and attributes of their region.”
Mr George said he was delighted that Oracles will receive the funding.
“Oracles of the Bush is a four day cultural event celebrating the live performance of Australian Bush poetry, music and art. This showcase is set against the beautiful colours of Tenterfield in autumn, which draws many return visitors to the area.”
The 2017 Flagship Event Fund is managed by the state’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, officially putting Oracles under that banner.
Organising committee chairperson Jann Newman said everything was well in place but the grant money would be split between hiring a videographer to document the festival, with the reminder of the grant destined to promote the 2018 event.
