Mr Ryder turned his life around after being involved in a Billy Graham Crusade while on parole for armed bank robbery in the 1960s. He went on to become the first prisoner in Australia to complete a Doctorate of Theology by correspondence while completing his prison term.
Since his release in the mid-1970s, he has established churches for his Reach Out For Christ ministries around the world. Among his accomplishments are mass crusades in Venezuela, once a wealthy, oil-rich nation that has fallen on hard times.
No stadium was large enough to hold the congregations so streets were blocked off for the hundreds-of-thousands who wished to hear him.
“In these two cities (Loren City and St Philippe) we had a revival. We saw 10,000 get saved. They saw so many miracles they were so excited,” Dr Ryder told Vision Christian Radio.
The evangelist has many interesting experiences to share.
“His story is amazing,” Tenterfield Community Church pastor Pam Sammut said.
Friday’s event starts at 6pm.
