The final score was 46-14 in Inglewood’s favour, with the Tigers failing to score in the second half.
Captain/coach Brendan Minns said the side wasn’t at full strength but is not making any excuses for the Tigers’ poor showing, at what was always anticipated to be a hard match.
“Everyone in the side has a job to do, regardless of who’s there on the day,” he said.
“Inglewood was just too good.
“They played extremely well and we weren’t able to match it.”
Minns said the Tigers continue to make silly mistakes, giving away penalties and inviting Inglewood into the game, while the Tigers struggled to get into it at all. Despite not scoring in the second half Minns feels that defensively the team played a bit better.
“At the moment we’re struggling to complete a set of six tackles,” he said.
“We’re having lapses in the second, third or fourth tackle and failing to complete.”
Seventeen-year-old Geoff Swan Jnr was named Players’ Player in his first outing in the A Grade side, for playing outstanding footy and making multiple try-saving tackles on the Tigers line. Andrew Gormley received two referees’ points for some great hits at lock.
It’s a bye this weekend, and that’s come at a good time with several players carrying niggling injuries that need to be sorted out, Minns said.
“It’s been really full-on the last five weeks.
“It will be good to have a week off to regroup. We have some work to do at training and that will give us an extra week.
Minns said players have to work more on communitcation, and on working together as a team. He’s also looking to finetune a couple of attacking plays. He said Saturday’s loss was the wake-up call the team needed, and there will be some new strategies to put to the test against Killarney in the next match.
The Tigers now sit one point behind Inglewood on the leaderboard and one point ahead of Killarney, making the June 24 away game a strategically-important one to win if Tigers are to remain in the top two.
