Fire Captain John Gray said the car was parked near the barbecue area by a visitor who then went to see a family member. An investigation on the smell of burning alerted staff to the fire, which they kept contained with extinguishes and water until the fire brigade arrived.
“The staff did a good job to contain it,” Cpt Gray said.
“The car was parked adjacent to other cars and near to a building.”
The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, but an electrical fault is suspected.
One positive coming out of the episode was the opportunity for staff and residents to carry out their evacuation plan, with everyone moving to their assigned evacuation point.
“It was good from that perspective,” Cpt Gray said.
“They do regular practices, but this one had some reality with it.”
Cpt Gray said there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
