Tenterfield Thunders Tia Campbell and Thomas Newman seem set to play in Football South West sides at the Gold Coast Youth Cup during the September school holidays after making it through the selection process.

Zone teams were announced last week, with squads to be confirmed depending on availability. Tia has been selected for the Under 16 girls team, while Thomas has been selected as a shadow player for the Under 16 boys. (If someone drops out he will be a back-up reserve).

During the last eight weeks the Football Stanthorpe rep sides have been busy training, competing and travelling north for one carnival or another. The federation has had teams from Under 6 to Under 16 demonstrating their talents from Toowoomba to Stanthorpe and destinations in between.

Zone trials were held in Toowoomba for the Football South West sides to represent the region in the Youth Cup. To catch the selector’s eye for this level while been remotely located from the main NPL (National Premier Leagues) coaches is a major achievement.

Football Stanthorpe  congratulates these players on their skill, attitude and prowess – on and off the field – for even making the final team selections.

Their coaches must also be congratulated for volunteering and for their efforts to get these players this far, and the mums and dads thanked for letting us help with your most prized possessions, your children.
