Australian Bacon Week runs from June 25 to July 1, celebrating 100 per cent Australian bacon and drawing attention to the competition local bacon faces from imported products.  The Australian PorkMark Bacon Awards are run in conjunction with Bacon Week .

Tim Rose from Premier Meats is on board with promoting not only the Australian product but the Tenterfield version.

“We entered the 2017/18 Australian PorkMark Bacon Awards to highlight our locally-produced bacon and because we are proud  to make our own bacon here in Tenterfield  using 100 per cent Australian pork sourced from our regional area,” he said.

“We are continually working to improve our product and the genuine feedback we receive each year from the expert  judges is invaluable. The staff work as a team to produce these award winning products and we are very excited with this year’s results.

“Best bacon in NSW has a nice ring to it.”

Premier Meats’ Full Bacon Rasher received the Gold Medal in NSW in the Bacon Awards this year, the taste of their full bacon rasher being described by the judges as having ‘a perfect taste balance, perfect lean to fat ratio and very good texture and moisture’.

More than 125 bacons were put to the test and impressed the judges. Fleischmeister Horst Schurger and chefs Simon Bestley and Paul McDonald assessed the appearance, aroma and taste of the products and noted a much higher standard than 2016/17 entries.

Premier Meats’ Short Cut Bacon was awarded a silver medal in the NSW competition.  Judges commented on subtle smoke aroma and the slow release of flavor. Again the lean to fat ratio was described as perfect.

To celebrate Bacon Week and as a special inducement to try the award-winning bacon and support local producers, Mr Rose is giving a free half-dozen pack of Tenterfield eggs to each customer buying a half kilo of bacon before Saturday, July 1. There will also be in-store promotions and one lucky customer will win a free half-kilo of Premier Bacon every week for 10 weeks.
