NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This celebration is not just held in the Indigenous communities, but also in increasing numbers of government agencies, schools, local councils and workplaces.
All of local schools have been invited to TSHPMPS to come and join in the celebrations, with students from Mingoola Public School and Deepwater Public School participating. This is a wonderful opportunity for our local schools to come together and to strengthen our relationships with our community.
Students will be involved in a range of activities including boomerang dot painting, rock art, basket weaving, beading, boomerang throwing and traditional Indigenous games.
Our Welcome to Country, Flag Raising Ceremony and Wayne Hippi’s presentation will begin at 9.20am. Students are asked to come dressed in the colours of the Aboriginal flag and there will be a barbecue lunch. All community members are invited to join us.
