After many forward runs and attempted shots, the Thunder posted their first goal from a free kick well outside the 18-yard box. A wise decision from captain Amy Condrick saw Murraya Horan take a spectacular kick which curled into the top right corner.
Samantha Gower has had a good season since her change into a more forward position. After a number of accurate crosses, she was fortunate to skew a shot off her boot which sailed over goalie Katie Yates’ head. The half-time saw a comfortable lead to Tenterfield 2-0.
After some key tactical instructions in the break, the Thunder clicked up a gear and put more pressure on International’s defence. Striker Tia Campbell guided two close range opportunities into the net early after some good lead up play.
Midfielder Emily Ryan has added some much needed strength in the Thunder’s engine this season and it wasn’t long till she also added to the goal tally with a cracking shot from the top of the box. Horan and Emily McMeniman (controversially) both scored late in the half to cap off a resounding victory.
Final Score 7-0 to Tenterfield. Thank you to all the ladies and supporters for travelling on Origin night and braving the cold.
