The successful event brought hundreds of young players and their entourages to town, with time to take in some of the local sights between matches. Macintyre team manager Keven Mooney said he’s had no negative feedback and quite a few positive stories from local businesses about the traffic they received.
Up at Rugby League Park the Macintyre team featuring eight junior Tigers was pipped at the post in a very tight competition with only one point separating placegetters. Macintyre came second to Warwick and Southern Downs.
Fletcher Koch and Gerry McGrady were picked as players on the City team to take on Country at the conclusion of the carnival, with City victorious. Fletcher was also named Player of the Carnival, a prestigious honour determined by a set of three judges awarding points throughout the four days of play.
Next year’s under 43kg carnival will be played at Warwick, with 2017’s 12-year-old players outgrowing the requirements but with their 11-year-old team mates now with some experience under their belts to carry forward.
