Challenges cross religious boundaries

Here’s a letter from Mike Gore, CEO of Open Doors Australia...

Recently I spent some time in Lebanon and met with Syrian refugees who have fled the civil war in their country.

During my time there I heard a phrase that stuck with me: ‘Not one family has been left untouched by the war.’  Around 79 per cent of Syrian refugees have experienced a death in their immediate family.  And a further 60 per cent have seen someone beaten or shot right in front of them.

Lebanon is 17 times smaller than Syria and every one in four people is a Syrian refugee.

In one refugee camp, I met a Muslim woman who had fled with her husband and three children. Lebanon itself is recovering from a war of its own and this woman and her family found they were unable to earn a living there either.

They had to depend on food parcels from the local church to survive. Her husband even decided to move away to try and find work.

One night she said she didn’t want to see her children die. That night she had a dream and saw Jesus Christ holding them in the palm of his hands. He said to her, ‘Don’t worry, I will take care of you.’

The next morning when she woke up she found there was food miraculously in her refugee house.

“How can I tell my husband about this?” she asked herself, as he was also a Muslim man.

She asked God to reveal Himself to her husband, only to discover he’d had the same dream!

I say all this to remind us that Jesus is revealing Himself to people in some of the most difficult and dangerous places in the world.

Everything we do at Open Doors is to connect people with Jesus. Whilst we provide practical support and emergency relief, our aim is to see the church strengthened and the gospel spread.

We want to see nations restored from the inside out as we believe Jesus is the only answer to the world’s brokenness.

(End of letter)

Jesus is the answer to all our challenges here in Tenterfield as well. Take your first step toward Him and Jesus will come running!  C U in church this Sunday!
