The Tenterfield Tigers beat Stanthorpe 52-26 in the doubleheader in Inglewood on Saturday, letting in more tries than captain/coach Brendan Minns would have liked in the lead-up to this Satruday’s semi-final against Killarney.

“We’re still not as good as we want to be defensively,” he said.
“There’s plenty of room for improvement, and we’ll have to sort it out quickly.”
Minns said the Tigers scored some good tries, but defence and ball handling still left a lot to be desired.
“In the second half following tries we completed only one out of six sets, due to ball handling and silly mistakes.”
He said Players’ Player Jacob Harding had an outstanding game, as did Wayne Brown controlling much of the game from dummy half. He also made special mention of the forwards, some of whom played close to 80 minutes due to a limited bench, and did extremely well.
The team is carrying what Minns referred to as a few niggling injuries, but at this stage it’s a matter of barrelling through.
Faron Anderson won’t, however, be playing through his knee injury as he awaits scan results. Minns said this is a devastating blow to the Tigers, but he does have 26 eligible players from which to choose his squad of 22.
While the A grade is kicking off at 2.30pm to determine who meets Inglewood the following week in the grand final, the junior Tigers play their last game before their final series, kicking off from 9am. Tenterfield is also hosting an under 16s game, adding up a big day of footy. The canteen will be operating and the bar will open once the junior games are completed.
The Tigers girls leaguetag team won the Presidents Cup (between the top two teams after round 1) against Goondiwindi last weekend in a convincing 36-nil victory. The Under 12s were also in the running for their cup, but were defeated 24-18 by Goondiwindi.
Both these teams will likely travel to Warwick to play Suburbs in the first round of the final series the following weekend, followed by Tenterfield hosting the Junior Rugby League preliminary finals on September 2.
