The new warning system at the dangerous Bruxner Way/New England Highway intersection announced by visiting NSW Roads Minister Melinda Pavey in June is now installed and operational.
Councillor Michael Petrie for one is a little underwhelmed by the installation, which warns highway travellers of approaching traffic.
The topic was briefly discussed at the council meeting on August 23, where mayor Peter Petty said at least the installation is a ‘foot in the door’ of working with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to alleviate the accident blackspot.
An RMS spokesperson said the NSW Government provided $90,000 for the installation of the new safety technology. Warning signs installed on both sides of the highway are activated by vehicles approaching the Bruxner Way and Old Ballandean Road intersection from side roads.
A message appears on the signs for around three to five minutes, encouraging drivers to slow down on approach to the New England Highway intersection.
“The trial is a first for NSW and if successful could be rolled out more widely across the state,” the spokesperson said.
