He was born 18 May, 1923 in Tenterfield, son of Sir Michael and Lady Bruxner, Sir Michael, himself a long standing local Member of Parliament.
Altogether father and son, consecutively served the Tenterfield Electorate for 62 years.
When Sir Michael died, Tim, against his father’s advice, stood and won the seat of Tenterfield.
He retired in 1980 when there was a change of boundaries and the Electorate took in the seat of Armidale and was renamed Northern Tablelands, making Tim the last Member for Tenterfield – a seat once held by Sir Henry Parkes.
Tim spent most of his early life on the family property “Roseneath”, Tenterfield before going to school at Cranbrook in Sydney, where he was Captain in his final year.
He began studying law but left to join the army, later transferring to the RAAF where he became a Pilot Officer.
Following the war Tim purchased “Old Auburn Vale” at Inverell where he lived with his wife, Margaret (deceased) and raised their son, Angus.
He later moved to Bellevue Hill where he remained in contact with his Parliamentary peers until recently.
Whilst in Parliament, Tim held numerous ministerial portfolios, both in Government and Opposition.
For many years he was Deputy Leader of the Country Party, later renamed The Nationals.
Tim will be remembered as a true gentleman whose counsel was sought by many.
Tim passed away last Tuesday, August 22 and was privately cremated in accordance with his express wishes. He was described in his death notice appearing in the Sydney Morning Herald as “a true gentleman in every sense of the word, Tim was widely admired for his high principles, integrity and wisdom. We are all grateful for the significant and distinguished innings which he has played in the game of life. He was indeed an honourable man.”
