More than $4000 in winnings is up for grabs, with trophies and prizes for both junior and senior categories in Murray Cod, Perch (of the Golden, Silver and Spangled varieties) and eel-tail catfish.

Entry is $15 for those under 15 years of age, $25 for seniors or $60 for a family. Note that all fees are payable in cash only.

Even those who don’t get a nibble will be up for the lucky door prize, which organisers promise is a big one.

Landlubbers are also in for a great weekend with camping available from Friday to Sunday at the cost of $20 per site, in idyllic surrounds with showers, toilets and campfires. Small dogs kept on a lead are OK.

For those wanting a break from camp cooking, a canteen will be operating for the duration, with meals available at reasonable prices.

There will even be entertainment provided by DJ Zevern on the Friday and Saturday nights.

Mingoola school has received a lot of attention recently, reopening thanks to refugee resettlement efforts which were also recognised by Mingoola’s Julia Harpham being named 2017 Rural Woman of the Year.

Organisers would love to see more of Tenterfield’s amateur anglers head west for a fun weekend of fishing, to support the school and the community’s aims.

Final weigh-in for the competition is at noon on Sunday. Winners will be presented with their prizes after that.
