Member for Lismore, Thomas George MP, announced $186,000 for improvements near Woodenbong and Tabulam on Friday, as part of the NSW Government’s Aboriginal Road Safety Action Plan.
“These projects may be relatively small, but once completed will significantly improve access to these communities and change and save lives,” Mr George said.
“Aboriginal people are over-represented in crashes, which is why the government is committed to improving safety through a range of actions like road improvements.”
He said work near Woodenbong would cost around $71,000 and involve upgrading one of the key intersections upon entry to the Muli Muli community and road safety improvements.
“Work will also upgrade the entry to the Jubullum community near Tabulam, including safety and street sign installation and cost about $115,000.”
Mr George said the work is as a result of road safety infrastructure assessments carried out by Roads and Maritime Services in 66 Aboriginal communities across the state.
Work will be carried out this financial year and residents of these communities will be kept informed.
