It was a matter of preaching to the converted as well as fielding some queries from the undecided when Peter Petty officially launched his bid for National Party pre-selection for the seat of Lismore, at the Telegraph Hotel on Wednesday, November 1.

Mr Petty said he was pleased if somewhat humbled by the turnout, which included extended family and retiring Lismore MP Thomas George.
Policy-wise, he said he’d fight as hard as he could for continuing improvements to infrastructure, health and hospitals, and especially tourism should he gain pre-selection and then go on to retain the seat for the Nationals.
He agreed that conservative strongholds like Tenterfield and other rural populations such as Kyogle could contribute towards tipping the balance in the Nationals’ favour come polling day, over left-wing interests in more densely-populated areas on the coast.
Anyone on the Lismore electoral roll can vote for their preferred National Party candidate in non-compulsory community pre-selection on November 18, in Tenterfield at the School of Arts between 8am and 6pm. Also in the running are macadamia nut farmer Austin Curtin and realtor Andrew Gordon.
