Statistics reveal that each year the average Aussie farmer feeds 400 Australians, and 600 people around the globe. Beef cattle farming was the local government area’s top industry of employment accounting for 14.2 per cent of its workforce (312 workers), according to 2016 census data.
This well exceeded the next most populous industries of aged care residential services (4.0 per cent/90 workers), local government administration (3.7 per cent/83 workers) and supermarket/grocery stores and accommodation (both 2.8 per cent/64 workers).
The smell of Tenterfield beef patties and sausages wafting down Rouse St on Tuesday indicated that all those local producers are doing a great job.
