A host of Tenterfield revheads have made their mark on the local motor sport scene. The Short Circuit Motor Sport Association held their annual “Night of Champions” trophy presentation night held recently at the Drayton Bowls Club in Toowoomba.

The night was attended by competitors and their families from many parts of Queensland and New South Wales.
Also attending the evening was representatives from the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, Laurence Svenson and his wife Janelle.
Laurence is the Queensland delegate on the CAMS board, also the Queensland Adminsitation Officer Lisa Catchpole who with Laurence presented the trophies to the winning competitors.
The Queensland – New South Wales Sprint Challenge was run over four rounds, three rounds at Warwick’s Morgan Park and one round at Stanthorpe’s Carnell Raceway, was very hotly contested and attracted near record fields and this produced some top close racing throughout the four rounds.
The series which was run in two sections, short circuit racing and super sprint has proved a very successful formula.
Several Tenterfield competitors competed in the four round series against some stiff opposition/ Sports Car 2000cc – 3000cc saw Stephen & Kylie Ross give a flawless display in their immaculate Mazda RX8.
Stephen picked up the first trophy in the class while Kylie finished a close second.
Neal O’Reilly showed he was the man to beat in the Morris Mini Cooper.
He had an easy win in the Sports Sedans class under 2000cc.
The Improved Production class 3000cc – 4500cc saw David Hayne in a Nissan NXR finish second while Todd Hayne finished close fourth in a Nissan NXR.
Fifteen year old Adam Hayne in his first year in sprint events showed he will be a force to be reckoned in his Hyundai XL.
Adam picked up third sport in the junior Class for drivers from 14 – 17 years.
The highlight of the series was the five driver teams, one team from Queensland and one team from New South Wales racing for the Noel Simpson Memorial Shield. Each team member gets one flying timed lap with the times being added together with the team with the fastest time winning the round.
The Queensland team started as hot favorite but it was not to be, as a team from New South Wales which included Neal O’Reilly and young Adam Hayne toppled the Queensland team and the Shield will be in the New South Wales hands until the end of 2018.
