“The Level 2 water restrictions remain as a moderate water restriction level and are designed to increase the community awareness of water saving techniques and reduce normal daily household consumption by at least 15 per cent,” Mayor Peter Petty said.
“By raising community awareness we can all help to reduce water consumption and save our precious water supply.”
Currently the town is consuming 1.25 megalitres a day, equating to around 307 litres/person/day. A 15 per cent reduction would reduce that by 20 litres/person/day, about two standard buckets. 15 per cent reduction would reduce that by 20 litres/person/day, about two standard buckets.
Restrictions for residential properties:
- No use of fixed hoses or sprinklers for gardening;
- Restricted use of approved micro sprays/garden watering systems to one hour a day, between 4.30pm and 5.30pm from September 24, changing to between 6.30pm and 7.30pm (DST) from October 7 onwards;
- There are no restrictions on the use of hand held hoses for gardens;
- Buckets only may be used to wash hard surfaces;
- Washing of motor vehicles to be undertaken on grassed areas using buckets only;
- The filling of swimming pools and spas is banned although topping up is permitted, topping up of fountains is banned.
Restrictions for public/commercial properties:
- No restrictions on water cartage, stock troughs, ready mix concrete, auto flush toilets/urinals;
- Public gardens, sports grounds, showground and nurseries: sprinklers one hour per day, between 4.30pm and 5.30pm from September 24, changing to between 6.30pm and 7.30pm daily (DST) from October 7 onwards;
- Market gardens: six hours per day, between 6.30pm and 6.30am daily (EST and DST)
“We desperately hope that good rains will fall before the dam falls to 50 per cent capacity and forces the introduction of Level 3 restrictions,” Mayor Petty said.
“I implore everyone to abide by these restrictions to ensure the longevity of our valuable water.”
