Trevor will be one of the players contesting the inaugural Woodenbong “Yowie Cup” which will be held on August 10.
The Course and Match Committee decided a fresh event would be an inspiration for local golfers and visitors alike offering a country course with beautiful views and a relaxed atmosphere and decided a team event would be most suitable.
They have seen how popular other team events are as golf is a lot more fun to play with your mates when you are on the same team working together.
Graeme Tye, a committee member, said he hoped people within the region would support the concept.
“We had to decide on a name for the event. We came up with the Yowie Cup because it ties in with the local area reputation of being the home of the Yowie,” he said.
“We have worked tirelessly on setting this new event up and now we can only hope that the golfers out there will support us with their attendance,” he said.
The major sponsor for the day is Taylor's Mitre 10 Woodenbong, who has sponsored the club for many years and is generously continuing their support with this new event.
The committee want to make this an annual event that all golfers around the northern rivers and southern Queensland look forward to playing in each year.
Organisers are calling for nominations for the inaugural Yowie Cup which is a three person Ambrose team event being held on Sunday, August 10 with a 10.00am shotgun start.
$15 per person includes morning tea and the bistro available for lunch, plenty of prizes and raffles.
Golfers can lodge their nominations by phone, fax or email by Thursday, August 7.
To ensure fairness the minimum team combined handicaps must exceed 30.
