“We’re definitely looking for new recruits in all grades,” club president Amy Condrick said.
All grades are now training each Wednesday afternoon, on the hockey fields for the next few weeks before relocating back across Tenterfield Creek for their normal home at Federation Park.
Ellen Counter is coaching junior colts, Hugh Campbell is coaching senior colts, while Glenn Caisley is coaching the ladies team and Stan Hickey coaches the men.
The club had some standout achievements last season with the ladies team just missing out on a grand final spot and several of its players going to play in the Stanthorpe representative side. Four junior colts also secured positions in the Stanthorpe side.
Tia Campbell and newly-named Tenterfield Young Sportsperson of the Year Thomas Newman also went on to represent South West Queensland in the Gold Coast Youth World Cup, in the under 16 girls and under 15 boys teams respectively.
Tia’s team won its age division, and was the only U16 team to beat an U18 team, with the older teams playing down in the U16 division.
Thomas’s team didn’t win a game, with the new recruits up against teams that had been playing together since the age of 10. For both Tenterfield players, however, the experience was invaluable, according to their coach Hugh Campbell.
For further information on joining senior soccer call Amy Condrick on 0421 565 183. Prospective players are urged to register quickly so pre-season games can be organised.
Registration fees have been maintained at last year’s levels, so the club will need support with fundraising activities such as Beerfest and Oracles of the Bush and operating the canteen for home games.
Players can register at myfootballclub.com.au. Look for Tenterfield Senior Soccer (Qld). For any issues contact the club registrar Ellen Counter on 0472 510 169.
