So to add some extra ‘oomph’ to proceedings, the band is happy to put on a free concert in Bruxner Park on Saturday, March 4 to kick off a busy week of activities.
The band is here for the Rotary-sponsored German Cultural Festival, but Rotary president Harry Bolton said the free concert in the park is a good opportunity for older residents who perhaps don’t want to go to the beerfest or night concert.
In addition to the brass band there will be local entertainment in the form of Josh Moylan and others, while market stalls and breakfast outlets operate in the park. The free concert goes from 10am to around 1pm, but that’s just the start of a program that includes lunch on Monday at Tenterfield Golf Club (following a free food tasting and recipe session with dietitian Rebecca Everett), a special screening of La La Land at the Tenterfield Cinema on Wednesday, and lunch at the Tenterfield Bowling Club on Friday with a free concert by Darrel Maher. Grandparents days at the three town schools during the week are always popular as well.
The bus trip at the conclusion of the week on Saturday heads north for morning tea at Jam Works at Glen Aplin (checking out the preserves and other produce on offer) before heading west down Texas Rd to Mingoola for lunch.
Entertainment there will be provided by the students of Mingoola Public School on the merimbas, bearing in mind that the same group got a standing ovation for a fantastic performance at the Australia Day ceremony in Memorial Hall.
Tickets for the paid events (lunches at the Golf and Bowling Clubs, the cinema and bus trip) can be purchased in the council offices foyer on February 21, 23 and 28 and March 1, all between 10 and noon.
