On Tuesday March 7, the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial Public School (TSHPMPS) girls’ cricket team played a 25 over cricket match against the Warialda Public School at Shirley Park. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected change of date, the team had to play earlier than the planned Thursday match.

The girls, led by their captain Amelia, displayed a brilliant sense of sportsmanship and their team spirit was certainly to be commended. They enthusiastically chanted and cheered each other along throughout the match.
Warialda Public School won the toss and elected to bowl. At the end of their 25 overs, TSHPMPS had a total of 76 runs. Batters Bonnie (5), Shania (2), Elly (2) and Rosie were retired not out and Mikayla and Piper remained 0 not out at the end of the innings. Zali was caught out for 5 runs.
TSHPMPS fielding was of a high standard throughout, with two runouts; a sharp one-handed catch in the covers by Elly; a caught and bowled by Lucy; a difficult reflex catch by wicket-keeper Shania off Amelia’s leg-spin bowling and a nice catch at square leg by Bonnie.
Unfortunately Warialda Public School passed TSHPMPS total with 4 overs remaining, in a very close match.
Congratulations to Bonnie, Zali, Shania, Amelia, Luci, Elly, Rosie, Piper, Kyanne, Aamilyn, Elsie, Mikayla and Adele for their commitment to training and playing in this year’s competition.
Thank you to our parent coach Leeza Wishart, for her dedication and commitment towards developing the skills of our team.
Thanks also to the parents who volunteered their time to attend, score and prepare the field. Your assistance and flexibility was greatly appreciated.
