The Tamworth and District Liquor Accord wants to educate school-aged children about risky drinking in short, sharp seminars.

“Some of the kids may be 18, but just because you’re allowed to drink, doesn’t mean you are ready to do it,” chairman Nick Weir said.

“It’s about knowing what it can do to your body and respecting what you are capable of when you’re under the influence.”

Gone are the days of “getting away with it”.

“We have ID scanners, cameras everywhere, and people are constantly on social media, or videoing you on your phone,” he said.

“There is no such thing as a free lunch and I don't want kids to do something silly that will impact the rest of their lives.” Mr Weir has been working with Tamworth council to get the initiative up and running. Cr Russell Webb said there was a question over where the funding would come from and council would investigate.
