Organiser Neville Richardson considered the win payback for when the Tenterfield team got the prize money at the Inglewood carnival just a couple of weeks ago.
Despite the carnival usually being played in brilliant sunshine, the weather over the weekend was not kind, with what Richardson described as a ‘Scottish mist’ enveloping the greens for the majority of play resulting in very damp and miserable playing conditions. Still the bowlers persevered, and were fortified when club manager Peter McDade and president Ray Jordan stepped into the breech to rustle up some some hot pumpkin soup to warm them.
“You know you’re going something right when people say they’ll be back despite the awful weather,” Richardson said.
“They were happy they weren’t playing on the coast where they had torrential rain.”
It was a particularly rewarding carnival for Inglewood player Vinnie Babbington, who was not only part of the winning team but also scored three-nights’ free accommodation at the Bowling Club Motel as well as one of the raffle prizes.
Tenterfield’s own Elana Scott was in a composite team along with Tannymorrel and Inglewood players who came second, with a Glen Innes team taking third place. An Ashford team were the last round winners.
