We ask our elected Tenterfield community representatives to represent the majority of directly affected rural ratepayers "along Mt Lindesay Road" by ceasing the mandatory bins in accordance with the actual survey responses, and not allow any staff to try to divert this council decision in a similar manner to the prior agenda reports and May 2017 Youtube record?
Hopefully some councillors won't be tempted to choose to avoid their primary representation role in order to maintain their personal positions, rather than implement the ratepayers evidenced response?
Forcing other ratepayers to pay for an unnecessary, unwanted, unrequested pseudo service because the councillors (or staff) personally want that service, because they are forced to pay for another service in town that they can't use or because they will have their personal charges increased if they don't add a new collection area, should not be part of the decision making process.
Allowing the staff to take over council decisions, such as setting a rate, fee or charge is not what is intended by the local government legislation and policy.
Some of the means by which staff can takeover a council decision is via operational decisions which then "force" a council decision, incomplete, inconsistent, confusing, unsupported agenda reports, potentially confusing survey questions or by ignoring real evidence such as return of nearly 100 bins and petitions and 119 survey results from 155 affected ratepayers.
We ask the new senior staff ensure their advice supports Tenterfield Council public undertakings in this matter, and not focus on maximise gross revenue and mandated "service" charges without considering the evidenced responses of the majority of affected ratepayers who responded to the council-controlled survey.
