Ben and Annabelle Monie re-located the herd to “North Torrakina” at Little Plain, near Inverell, in 2013 and have remained firm in their commitment to producing sound cattle that are versatile in their application.
Herefords have long been recognised for their superior performance on grass and their suitability for the domestic market categories. Now, as the consumer demands background and clear branding on their beef, the Hereford beef is really finding traction in the feedlot sector, particularly in the medium fed regimes.
Large processors such as Nippon and JBS now have Hereford specific branded products which along with domestic participants, underpin the market demand for Herefords.
As the beef industry is wide ranging in it’s requirements, the Monie’s attempt to breed a versatile animal with ability to finish across wide ranging specifications.
Unconditional is their requirement for correctness in structure, and strong fertility. They then endeavour to breed an animal with a medium to above average frame with length of body and more particularly depth of body.
On Monday, August 21, at 1pm Thornleigh Herefords will offer 45 bulls which represent the above breeding principles, backed by BreedPlan objective data, a solid vaccination process, reproductive soundness and semen testing and by the integrity of the Monie family.
