Stud principal Greg Scurr said they strove to produce functional cattle with an emphasis on fertility.
“Frames, feet, fleshing and temperament are also important but a three legged wall eyed calf with an overshot jaw still holds more value than no calf at all,” Mr Scurr said. “We tend not to show our cattle instead focusing on making sure our clients get value for money.
“We also run a commercial program where we can test bloodlines in the field before we recommend them to others. A wise man said to me once if you wouldn’t use a bull yourself don’t offer him to someone else.”
Mr Scurr said bloodlines used at Tahlan were from some of the best breeding herds in Australia and across the world.
“Our bulls remain affordable with our 2016 sale averaging $4350,” he said.
“Some of the best highs in the bull breeding game come from clients telling us about how good there bulls are going and how they have improved there profitability.”
