The pair alerted police when they became lost in a state forest off the back of a Drake property on Monday.
A search and rescue operation was mounted but the pair spent the night lost in the bush without the proper equipment, police said.
Police from Armidale as well as the SES were called in to help before the pair managed to walk out to safety on Tuesday.
