Amelia Wishart has impressed at a high level with consistent performances at one of the state’s top school-aged carnivals.
From Monday, October 30, to Thursday, November 2, Amelia was part of the North West team which competed in the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association girls state cricket championships in Maitland.
A total of 13 teams from throughout NSW made the trek to the Hunter town to compete in the championships.
The North West team competed in Pool A and played six 25 over games over the four-day carnival.
Amelia was primarily selected in the team for her legspin bowling but early on in the carnival it was clear she is not just a talented bowler.
For the first two games Amelia batted seven down the order but after a handy 24 not out in the second game against South Coast she was promoted to number three where she batted for the remainder of the carnival.
In her place high in the side’s batting order, she played the sheet anchor role for the team, occupying the crease.
She stuck out every innings and and worked the ball into gaps in the field to score mostly ones and twos.
The highlight of her batting was leg glancing the Hunter left-hand quick opening bowler for four.
Not only was she brilliant with the bat, her bowling came into play and was impressive throughout the tournament.
Amelia bowled accurately and consistently throughout the carnival and also managed to snag some impressive wickets. Her best game was against North Sydney, who eventually took out the state championship. Amelia took two top order wickets from three overs for nine runs, including a clean bowled off her first delivery.
Unfortunately the inexperienced North West team didn’t win a game during the championships but noticeably improved their performance each and every game.
Amelia really enjoyed the experience, learnt heaps and greatly increased her game confidence.
Well done Amelia!
