Tenterfield’s Commonwealth Bank branch is hosting a donation drive with a difference, joining the #inthebag campaign and setting up a collection point for handbags in new or near-new condition along with women’s personal care and sanitary items.
The initiative is run by Australian organisation Share the Dignity which has been providing homeless and at-risk women with sanitary products since early 2015.
“We are thrilled to be supporting Share the Dignity,” bank branch manager Debbie Minns said.
“They provide an opportunity to make life better for a woman or girl experiencing homelessness or poverty in our local community this Christmas.”
Around 50 branches of the bank are supporting the initiative, but the Tenterfield branch is aiming to collect 20 bags during the campaign.
Donating is simple. Just choose a handbag in good condition that you no longer use, fill it with items that would make a woman feel special and pop in a thoughtful note or Christmas card and show her someone cares. Then drop the bag into at the bank.
