For the undecided, the chamber’s brand new Why Leave Town gift cards are the ideal choice for those who want to support their local retailers, but allow the giftee their choice of purchase. Those already in possession of a gift card will also have plenty of opportunity to treat themselves, while enjoying the entertainment on offer.
Santa will be stationed in the Tenterfield Star office between 4.30 and 5.30pm, keen to have his photo taken with you, before roaming the street with his helper elf distributing lollies and good wishes.
This year a chorus of local students from St Joseph’s Primary School will be leading the carol-singing in Bruxner Park from around 5.30pm, with the Stanthorpe Brass Band taking up position a little later, belting out some Christmas favourites. (Santa may also feel compelled to take up the baton again after last year’s effort).
Four busking stations will appear along Rouse Street to keep the seasonal tunes in the air, with Josh Moylan, Paul Lions, Shayle & Q and Jess Lockwood all entertaining.
Regional Australia Bank and the chamber are sponsoring the Christmas shop window decorating competition, with Why Leave Town gifts cards on offer for first ($300), second ($200) and third ($100) placegetters.
Tenterfield Shire Council general manager Terry Dodds has been charged with judging the entrants. Judging will continue on from around 5pm with the winners announced at 6pm, but only shops remaining open will be eligible for a prize.
Chamber president Vince Sherry said feedback from last year’s inaugural Wrap Tenterfield in Tinsel was good, and this Thursday evening promises to be a little cooler than last year’s stinker.
Most shops in the CBD have committed to staying open and there are more window displays in the running for Tinsel glory.
Mr Sherry is encouraging everyone to get down to the main street on Thursday night and join in the community spirit.
“Do it for Tenterfield, and be there,” he said.
