Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, is urging local communities to apply for their share of $200 million in Federal Government grants available through Round Two of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).
Time is running out for individuals and groups to apply for the program which supports projects that help rural, regional and remote communities reach their potential.
Round One of the program delivered more than $226 million to 257 projects across Australia, including more than $100,000 to help improve the lives of people here in the New England.
Mr Joyce said round two of funding is available in two streams – one for infrastructure projects with grants between $20,000 and $10 million and a second for community-led activities and events with funding between $5000 and $10 million.
“Bricks and mortar investment for large infrastructure projects are important for our region,” Mr Joyce said of the BBRF program.
“These developments are the sorts of projects that keep our regional communities vibrant and prosperous for generations to come.
“But we’re also offering funding opportunities for community activities including new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans as well as leadership and capability building activities.
“Together, these funding streams will help build a stronger, more dynamic New England region.”
Past recipients under the Community Investment Stream include groups producing an improved marketing program for a music festival, a club membership model to link over-65s to local businesses and suppliers of lifestyle and leisure products and services, an all-season BMX race track, multicultural fashion parades, and a series of information sessions to provide networking opportunities and information on business development and innovation.
For more information on the fund, or to submit an application go to https://www.business.gov.au/assistance/building-better-regions-fund. Note that the Tenterfield Shire is classed as outer-regional, and successful applicants are required to contribute co-funding of at least $1 for every $1 of grant funding requested (unless exempted or the total project value is less than $20,000 in the Community Investment Stream).
